Tension Erupts During Vehicle Check Near Collectorate Square, Youth Arrested

Koh-e-Fiza police faced a tense situation on Saturday evening near Collectorate Square during a routine vehicle checking drive. Traffic police stopped a jeep after the driver was found not wearing a seat belt. Instead of cooperating, the driver allegedly abused and misbehaved with the police team, prompting a crowd to gather at the scene.

Amid the commotion, a youth from the crowd, later identified as Anas, confronted the traffic officers, abusing and manhandling two constables. He claimed that the police harass citizens under the pretext of vehicle checks. As the situation escalated, reinforcements were called from Koh-e-Fiza police station to restore order.

On seeing additional police personnel arrive, the jeep driver sped away, while Anas was apprehended on the spot. Police have registered a case against both the driver and Anas for obstructing government work and other related offenses.

According to police, Constable Anuj, along with two colleagues, was conducting vehicle checks around 4:30 pm near Collectorate Square when the incident occurred. The jeep was traveling from the city toward Lalghati. Upon stopping the vehicle for the seat belt violation, the driver resisted the challan, abused the officers, and scuffled with them, which drew a crowd.

Anas intervened during this altercation, reportedly manhandling the constables. Following the arrival of reinforcements, Anas was taken into custody, while efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the jeep driver.
