Technical glitch in ATC system disrupts flight operations at Delhi Airport

New Delhi, November 7: Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport were disrupted on Friday morning following a malfunction in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system, causing delays in over 60 departures since 5 a.m.

According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), a technical issue in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS) — which supports ATC data — led to flight plans being processed manually, resulting in operational delays. Incoming flights, however, remained unaffected.

“Flight operations at Delhi Airport are experiencing delays due to a technical issue in the AMSS. Controllers are processing flight plans manually, leading to some delays. Technical teams are working to resolve the issue,” AAI said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Sources said the ATC system had been sluggish since Thursday evening, when around 25 flights faced delays. The Delhi Airport, which handles nearly 1,500 flight movements daily, said the matter was being addressed on priority in coordination with ATC, DIAL, and other stakeholders.

Normal operations are expected to resume once the system stabilises.
