Technical Assistants Demand Salary Hike, Threaten Protest

Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh | September 24, 2026 Technical assistants working under schemes like MNREGA, Viksit Bharat Guarantee, and the Rural Livelihood Mission in Mahoba have decided to take to the streets to demand an increase in their stipends and travel allowance. They have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Chief Development Officer, urging a swift resolution to their long-standing issues.

The technical assistants stated that their stipends have not been revised in the last five years, despite a continuous rise in inflation, leading to financial hardship. They emphasized that their responsibilities extend beyond merely preparing estimates, including regular inspection and supervision of various development projects underway in Gram Panchayats.

Key Demands: Stipend and Travel Allowance

These employees incur an average monthly expense of six thousand rupees on petrol for daily travel within their work areas. Considering this additional financial burden, the technical assistants are demanding their stipends be raised to match the minimum pay scale of a Junior Engineer, which is 45,000 rupees per month. Additionally, they are seeking a daily travel allowance for their site visits.

Timeline and Protest Warning

The employees' organization has given the government until September 26, 2026, to make a positive decision on their demands. Failure to meet their demands by the stipulated deadline will result in a state-wide protest to be held at the Eco Garden in Lucknow starting September 28.

Several technical assistants, including Ravi Kumar Tripathi, Babulal, Maheshwari Prasad, Praveen Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Namdev, Akhilesh Ravindra Pateriya, Suraj Singh, Keshav Babu, Brij Bihari, Brijendra Mishra, Narayan Das, and Devesh, were present during the submission of the memorandum. They urged the government to provide them with financial security, acknowledging their significant role in rural development. They believe they are a crucial link in executing development projects in rural areas and deserve fair compensation for their services.
