Public Holiday Demanded for Mahanavami
The Specific BTC Teacher Welfare Association has formally requested that Mahanavami, celebrated on October 19, 2026 (Monday), be declared a statewide public holiday across Uttar Pradesh. The association's state president, Santosh Tiwari, and state general secretary, Dilip Chauhan, submitted a formal letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath with this appeal.
Religious Significance and Public Appeal
According to association officials, Mahanavami on October 19th and the subsequent celebration of Dussehra on October 20th are significant festivals central to the faith of Sanatan Dharma. They emphasized that Mahanavami involves important religious rituals such as Maa Durga puja and Kanya Pujan performed with deep devotion throughout the state.
The association urged the Chief Minister to respect the religious sentiments of teachers, employees, and the general public by declaring a holiday. They believe this will allow millions of government employees to fulfill family obligations and participate in religious events, thereby upholding the festival's sanctity and aligning with public sentiment.
Holiday Demand Echoes in Balrampur
Alongside the statewide demand, local units of the organization have also been active on this issue in Balrampur district. Led by state general secretary Dilip Chauhan, local officials met with the District Magistrate of Balrampur and the Additional District Magistrate (Finance and Revenue).
The delegation submitted a memorandum to the officials, demanding a holiday for Mahanavami in all council schools and offices within the district. District president Dharmendra Kumar Shukla and general secretary Tularam Giri expressed hope that the Uttar Pradesh government would positively consider this significant demand, respecting the sentiments of the teacher-employee community. The organization feels this decision would be both encouraging for employees and underscore the festival's importance.
