Police in Fatehpur district, Uttar Pradesh, have claimed to have solved the sensational murder of a teacher, Shivani, who was killed in a rented house. The incident, which occurred in the Nasirpeer locality under Kotwali Nagar police station, has led to the arrest of the deceased's husband, assistant teacher Dilip Kumar Yadav, who is the main accused.
Husband Admits to Killing Wife
According to police, the accused husband confessed to killing his wife during interrogation. The incident came to light on August 8, 2026, after which the deceased's family filed a formal complaint against the husband and his two brothers. Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik stated that the complaint was lodged at Kotwali Nagar police station on August 9, following the incident on August 8.
Investigation and Confession
Given the gravity of the case, police teams were immediately formed for investigation. During the initial inquiry, the deceased's husband, Dilip Yadav, was taken into custody and questioned. He confessed to the murder during this period. Police said the accused revealed that between approximately 5:30 AM and 6:00 AM on August 8, he struck his wife on the head with a pressure cooker handle.
Attempt to Stage as an Accident
Subsequently, he allegedly held his wife's neck and submerged her in an inflatable tub. Police allege that after committing the murder, Dilip Yadav attempted to portray the incident as an accident. He tried to create an environment suggesting that his wife's death or unconsciousness was due to a mishap. According to police, after carrying out the deed, the accused roamed outside the house for about 20 minutes before returning.
Brothers Alerted and Victim Hospitalized
Upon his return, Dilip Yadav reportedly called his brothers to inform them that his wife had fainted due to an accident and needed immediate hospitalization. Following this information, his brothers arrived at the scene and took Shivani to the hospital. Meanwhile, the police were alerted, and the investigation commenced.
Scientific Evidence and Interrogation
Superintendent of Police Abhimanyu Manglik stated that the investigation was conducted based on scientific and forensic evidence. Evidence collected from the crime scene, the accused's interrogation, and other findings were included in the investigation. Police have also recovered the alleged murder weapon, the pressure cooker handle. The collection and examination of other evidence related to the case are ongoing.
Motive: Marital Dispute and Alleged Infidelity
During interrogation, the accused husband also mentioned his anger and disputes related to his wife's alleged illicit relationships. Police state that it was due to this alleged suspicion and marital discord that the accused murdered his wife. However, the allegation of his wife's alleged illicit relationship is part of the police investigation and can only be independently confirmed in court after evidence examination.
Involvement of Other Accused Being Investigated
In this murder case, police have also started investigating the role of the deceased's brothers, in addition to her husband. In the initial complaint, the deceased's family had named the husband and his brothers as accused. Police are trying to ascertain the role of these brothers after the incident and whether they provided any assistance in concealing the murder or staging it as an accident.
Arrest and Judicial Custody
Superintendent Manglik confirmed that the main accused, Dilip Yadav, was arrested on August 12, 2026. After completing the legal process, the accused was presented before the court, from where he was sent to judicial custody. Police stated that further investigation in the case is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on various evidence.
Severe Consequences of Marital Disputes
This incident once again highlights the severe consequences of domestic disputes and increasing tension in marital relationships. The deceased, Shivani, was a teacher, while her husband, Dilip Yadav, was reportedly also employed as an assistant teacher. Preliminary investigation suggests that the main reasons behind the murder were marital disputes and the husband's anger over his wife's alleged relationships.
Forensic Examination Ongoing
Police emphasized that the investigation is not limited to the accused's statement. The recovery of the alleged murder weapon, evidence from the crime scene, and other circumstantial evidence are being thoroughly examined. The full truth of the case will be revealed in court based on all these scientific and forensic evidences.

Following the allegations made by the deceased's family and the arrest of the main accused, the next phase of the investigation will involve examining the role of other named accused and clarifying the circumstances after the incident.
