Partnership to inject up to ₹18,000 crore as India’s data center capacity heads toward a tenfold expansion by 2030.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has entered into a landmark partnership with global investment major TPG to accelerate the growth of HyperVault, the IT giant’s newly launched AI-ready data center business. The agreement marks one of India’s largest private investments in next-generation digital infrastructure at a time when artificial intelligence is driving unprecedented demand for compute power.
Under the multi-year funding plan, TCS and TPG together will invest up to ₹18,000 crore, with TPG contributing as much as ₹8,820 crore. Depending on final closing conditions, TPG is expected to hold between 27.5% and 49% in HyperVault, giving the business a diversified promoter base and easing the capital burden on TCS.
A Big Bet on India’s AI Infrastructure Race
The partnership comes as AI workloads reshape global data center economics. India currently operates around 1.5 GW of data center capacity, but industry projections indicate that this could surge to 10 GW by 2030, fueled by investments approaching $94 billion since 2019.
HyperVault is positioned as TCS' answer to the AI-compute boom. The new platform will build gigawatt-scale, liquid-cooled, high-density facilities designed specifically for hyperscalers, AI companies, private enterprises and government workloads. The goal is to support real-time training and inference of large AI models—capabilities that require high-speed storage, low-latency networks and massive energy-efficient compute clusters.
TCS says the initiative aligns with its long-term ambition to transform itself into the world’s largest AI-led technology services provider.
What the Leaders Are Saying
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, TCS
Chandrasekaran said the investment marks a “major milestone” in TCS’s long-term AI strategy, noting that building GW-scale infrastructure will help the company deepen engagements with hyperscalers and AI-native firms. He added that the partnership strengthens India’s ability to host world-class AI infrastructure and positions TCS to deliver “complete AI solutions” across industries.
Jim Coulter, Executive Chairman, TPG
Coulter emphasised that modern data centers sit at the crossroads of technology, green energy, and real estate. He said TPG’s participation — routed through TPG Rise Climate, its Global South Initiative, and its Asia Real Estate platform — will help shape India’s next wave of digital infrastructure in a “climate-positive” manner.
Why TPG’s Entry Matters
TPG’s interest in HyperVault is backed by both commercial and strategic logic:
-
A rapidly expanding market: India is one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies.
-
A shift toward sustainable data centers: Liquid cooling and energy-efficient architecture align with global decarbonization trends.
-
Massive AI compute demand: Generative AI, autonomous systems, genomics, financial modelling and national-scale digital services require ultra-dense compute clusters.
By bringing in an external partner, TCS also reduces its immediate capital expenditure while accessing TPG’s expertise in infrastructure, climate investments, and real-estate optimization.
HyperVault: What the Platform Will Offer
HyperVault will build and operate:
-
Secure, large-scale AI-ready campuses across major cloud regions
-
High rack-density environments with advanced liquid cooling
-
Energy-efficient, climate-aware designs
-
Dedicated connectivity for hyperscaler ecosystems
-
High-performance environments suitable for LLMs, AI training, and inference
TCS will integrate HyperVault with its broader AI service stack — including cloud modernization, AI platforms, managed services, and industry-specific AI solutions — giving the company an end-to-end grip on the AI value chain.
