Sunny Deol turns emotional at Border 2 event, credits Dharmendra’s Haqeeqat for shaping his journey

Bollywood actor Sunny Deol grew visibly emotional on Friday evening in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, as he spoke about his father Dharmendra and the deep personal roots behind his association with the Border franchise. The moment unfolded during the launch of Ghar Kab Aaoge, a key song from the upcoming war drama Border 2.

Standing before BSF soldiers at an amphitheatre set up near the revered Tanot Mata Temple, Sunny Deol reflected on how cinema, legacy, and national service became intertwined in his life.

“Haqeeqat led me to Border”

Addressing the gathering, Sunny Deol said he chose to do Border (1997) after watching his father’s iconic war film Haqeeqat as a child. He explained that the emotional impact of that film stayed with him long before he became an actor.

He shared that once he entered the industry, he discussed the idea of a war film with JP Dutta, eventually leading to Border, which was based on the Battle of Longewala, a subject deeply connected to the armed forces stationed in the region.

As he spoke, the actor paused, fighting back tears, before completing his thought.

A film that shaped real lives

Sunny Deol also acknowledged the unexpected real-world impact of Border, saying he never imagined the film would inspire generations of young Indians to join the Army.

According to him, soldiers across the country have repeatedly told him that watching Border motivated them to choose military service. He described this as one of the most humbling outcomes of his career.

He concluded his address by delivering a powerful line from the Border 2 teaser, asking how far the nation’s voice should reach, and answering it himself, drawing loud cheers from the crowd.

High-profile presence, massive turnout

The event saw the presence of Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Ahaan Shetty, singer Sonu Nigam, and producer Bhushan Kumar. Around 12,000 people attended the programme.

Senior security officials including BSF Rajasthan Frontier IG ML Garg and South Sector DIG Mahesh Kumar Negi were also present, reinforcing the film’s close association with the armed forces.

About the song Ghar Kab Aaoge

Ghar Kab Aaoge is a recreated emotional anthem inspired by Sandese Aate Hain from Border (1997).
The song features vocals by Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh.

The music has been recreated by Mithoon, with new lyrics by Manoj Muntashir Shukla, while retaining original lines penned by Javed Akhtar. The full version of the song was officially released on January 2.

The track focuses on the emotional bond between soldiers and their families, highlighting longing, duty, and sacrifice.
