Protest Turns to Confrontation

Patna | July 22, 2026: Violent clashes broke out between students and police in Bihar's capital, Patna, on Wednesday during a Raj Bhavan march called by the All India Students' Federation (AISA) and other Left-wing student organizations. A large number of students took to the streets to protest against continuous paper leaks in competitive exams, alleged corruption in the examination system, and the new education policy.

The gathering began at the Patna University campus in the morning, after which students marched towards Raj Bhavan. The administration had made tight security arrangements, setting up barricades at several locations and deploying a heavy police force. When the protesting students attempted to cross the barricades and move forward, police tried to stop them. This led to an exchange of words that quickly escalated into shoving and minor scuffles.

Students' Outrage Over Exam System Irregularities

Student leaders alleged that the future of millions of youth is being jeopardized due to paper leaks and irregularities in competitive examinations nationwide. They stated that the government has completely failed to make the examination system transparent, take strict action against culprits, and curb the increasing privatization of education.

Additionally, they criticized the new education policy, deeming it detrimental to students' interests. In an effort to control the situation, police warned the protestors to retreat. Despite this, when the protest continued, police detained several student leaders and activists.

According to police officials, this action was necessary to maintain law and order and ensure the security of the sensitive area.

Traffic Disrupted, Administration Steps In

Traffic was disrupted on several main routes in the city for some time due to the march and demonstration. The police ensured the movement of vehicles through alternative routes, gradually normalizing the situation. By afternoon, the administration claimed that the situation was completely under control.

Student organizations have warned that if their demands are not seriously considered, they will intensify their state-wide movement. Currently, the situation remains peaceful with additional police forces deployed in sensitive areas of the city. The administration is closely monitoring the developments.
