Stricter Surveillance Ordered on Nepal Border to Curb Drug Trafficking
District Magistrate Dr. Vipin Kumar Jain has issued directives for increased surveillance and action against drug trafficking and illegal trade along the Nepal border.

Enhanced Surveillance on Nepal Border to Combat Drug Trafficking
Balrampur District, August 21, 2026 – To curb drug trafficking and illegal trade, District Magistrate Dr. Vipin Kumar Jain has issued significant directives during a meeting of the NCORD (NCORD) committee held at the Collectorate auditorium. The primary agenda of this meeting was to review various points, including increasing surveillance and vigilance in the India-Nepal border area, checking drug stocks in medical stores, and enforcement action against illicit liquor.
The District Magistrate urged all relevant departments to work in coordination to effectively prevent drug trafficking and illegal sales. He specifically issued strict orders to the police, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and the Excise Department to enhance surveillance and vigilance in the India-Nepal border region. Emphasis was placed on paying special attention to sensitive locations and major transit routes in the border areas, ensuring immediate and effective action upon receiving information about any suspicious activity.
Strengthening Border Surveillance and Information Networks
During the meeting, the District Magistrate instructed the concerned departments to further strengthen their information networks. He stated that the exchange of information related to drug trafficking and illegal sales is crucial for better coordination among enforcement agencies. He stressed the importance of ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in the illegal drug trade.
Medical Store Drug Stocks to Be Inspected
The District Magistrate also ordered regular inspection of drug stocks available in medical stores across the district. He emphasized that during medical store inspections, a thorough check of drug stock and sales records should be conducted. Drug sampling will also be carried out if necessary. Violations of regulations found during inspections will lead to action as per the law against the concerned parties.
Strict Action Against Illicit Liquor Mandated
Furthermore, the District Magistrate directed stringent action against the manufacturing, sale, storage, and transportation of illicit liquor within the district. He asked the police and excise departments to maintain continuous surveillance on activities related to illicit liquor and ensure effective enforcement and legal action against those involved.
Public Awareness Also Emphasized
Highlighting the importance of public awareness alongside enforcement to protect youth from the ill effects of drugs, the District Magistrate urged the concerned departments to educate the public about the adverse effects of substance abuse. He also stressed the need to maintain effective coordination at the departmental level to prevent the illegal drug trade. Present at the meeting were Additional Superintendent of Police Vishal Pandey, District Excise Officer, Commandant of SSB, and other relevant officials and staff.
