Ajay Bhupathi’s directorial debut, Srinivasa Mangapuram, has officially transitioned to over-the-top platforms, making its digital debut on Prime Video on August 20.
The film, which marked the acting debut of Jaya Krishna, nephew of actor Mahesh Babu, and the Telugu debut of Rasha Thadani, daughter of Raveena Tandon, had a theatrical run of three weeks. It garnered mixed reviews upon its release in cinemas on July 30.
Digital Premiere Announced
The decision to release the film online was announced by its presenters, Vyjayanthi Movies, merely a day prior to its streaming availability. They shared the news with an announcement that read, “Watch the MOST INTENSE LOVE STORY of the Season from the comfort of your Home. #SrinivasaMangapuram is now streaming on @PrimeVideoIN.”
Director Ajay Bhupathi also shared his excitement, writing, “A story filled with love, pain, emotions and action! Bringing the world of #SrinivasaMangapuram to your home screens now. Do watch it and share your views!”
Faster OTT Release
While a release window of approximately a month is considered the norm for Telugu films, Srinivasa Mangapuram appears to have arrived on digital platforms somewhat sooner than usual.
The film, penned and directed by Ajay Bhupathi, was produced by P Kiran under Chandamama Kathalu Pictures LLP. C Ashwini Dutt of Vyjayanthi Movies presented the film.
Debut Performances and Cast
Srinivasa Mangapuram represents Jaya Krishna's maiden on-screen appearance. For Rasha Thadani, it signifies her entry into the Telugu film industry, following her debut in the Hindi film Azaad last year.
The supporting cast includes notable actors such as Mohan Babu, Naresh, Shaam, Brahmaji, and Ajay in significant roles.
Box Office Performance and Critical Reception
Upon its theatrical release on July 30, Srinivasa Mangapuram received a lukewarm reception, with critics citing its outdated script and formulaic structure as points of concern. Despite the vocal support for Jaya Krishna from his uncle Mahesh Babu prior to the film's release, it did not significantly impact the film's performance.
According to trade website Sacnilk, the film's domestic net collection stood at ₹5.55 crore, with its worldwide gross earnings falling under ₹10 crore.
Director's Previous Works
This film marks Ajay Bhupathi's fourth directorial venture. His previous works include RX 100 (2018), Maha Samudram (2021), and Mangalavaaram (2023).
Before the film’s theatrical release, Bhupathi had described Srinivasa Mangapuram to Hindustan Times as "not your usual love story" but rather a "rugged" and emotional narrative with an underlying innocence, delivered in his signature style.
