A tragic road accident in Madhya Pradesh late on Friday night claimed the lives of three youths after their car crashed through a bridge railing and plunged into a canal near Narmadapuram. Police said the vehicle was travelling from the Itarsi side when the driver allegedly lost control, sending the car into deep water within seconds.

Vehicle submerged before rescue teams arrived

Eyewitnesses told police that the occupants were seen desperately trying to open the doors as the vehicle began sinking. Local residents immediately alerted authorities, prompting teams from Itarsi and Pathrota police stations to rush to the scene.

A local youth attempted to rescue the passengers by jumping into the canal but was forced to retreat due to strong currents and depth.

SDRF conducts late-night recovery operation

With the car fully submerged, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) was called from Narmadapuram. After a rescue operation lasting nearly two-and-a-half hours, the team pulled the vehicle out of the canal. Officials said there were signs the victims had tried to break the windows to escape but could not get out in time.

Victims identified by police

The deceased were identified as Shivam Tiwari, 25, from Pathrota, Lucky Patel, 30, from Raisalpur, and Rajesh Chauhan, 20, from Itarsi. Police confirmed that a case has been registered and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Road safety concerns grow

Local residents have raised concerns about speeding on the Itarsi–Pathrota stretch, especially during late hours when visibility is low. Experts say accidents involving vehicles plunging into water bodies often become fatal due to delayed escape and rescue challenges.
