In Balrampur, workers of the Samajwadi Party staged a strong protest on Tuesday against the arrest of their national president and former Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav. Party leaders submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the district administration, demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Akhilesh Yadav.
The Samajwadi Party officials alleged that the arrest of their party president during a peaceful demonstration is a grave assault on democratic rights. The workers emphasized that the party has always strived for the protection of democracy, the constitution, and freedom of expression. They urged the government to respect the rights of peaceful democratic protests.
Upholding Constitutional Rights
During the protest, party workers expressed their anger by chanting slogans like "Dictatorship will not be tolerated" and "Save Democracy." The workers demanded an end to the violation of constitutional rights of opposition leaders and the assurance of the dignity of democratic institutions.
A large number of workers were present, including District General Secretary Narsinghpal Yadav, former MLA Ram Sagar Akela, District President of Babasaheb Ambedkar Vahini Manish Sonkar, Vishal Srivastava, and District Media In-charge Ganesh Prasad Yadav.
