Sony India has introduced the WH-1000XM6, the latest addition to its 1000X series of wireless noise-cancelling headphones. Designed for commuters, travellers, professionals, and general users, the WH-1000XM6 offers real-time adaptive noise cancellation, updated sound processing, and a refreshed design.
Specifications and Design
The WH-1000XM6 runs on Sony’s HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3, which processes sound faster than its predecessor. The system now includes 12 microphones—up from eight in the WH-1000XM5—to enhance external noise detection.
The headphones feature a redesigned headband made with vegan leather and wider padding to reduce pressure during extended use. The stretchable earpads offer extra comfort, and the headphones fold using a metal injection mechanism. The case now closes magnetically for quicker access.
Features and Performance
The Adaptive NC Optimiser automatically adjusts noise cancellation based on environmental noise and air pressure. The Ambient Sound mode has been updated to balance external sounds with audio playback.
The driver unit uses a carbon fibre composite dome and a new voice coil structure, supporting High-Resolution Audio via LDAC in both wired and wireless modes. The headphones also employ Edge-AI-based DSEE Extreme to upscale compressed files.
Additional controls are available through the Sony | Sound Connect app, including a 10-band equaliser, film audio effects, and a Game EQ from Sony’s INZONE range. The WH-1000XM6 supports 360 Reality Audio Upmix, converting stereo tracks into spatial sound.
For communication, a six-microphone AI-based beamforming system isolates the user’s voice and reduces background noise. The headphones support LE Audio with Auracast, multipoint device connections, and low-latency transmission for gaming.
The battery supports fast charging, offering up to three hours of playback with just a three-minute charge. Users can also listen while charging via USB.
Pricing and Availability
The WH-1000XM6 will be available in Black, Platinum Silver, and Midnight Blue. Sales begin on 29 September 2025 at a price of ₹39,990 through Sony Centres, select Croma and Reliance outlets, the ShopatSC.com portal, and Amazon.
