Snapchat puts a cap on Memories storage, rolls out paid plans

Snap is changing the way Snapchat Memories work. Since 2016, Memories has allowed users to store unlimited Snaps, but that era is ending. A 5GB free storage cap will now apply, with additional space available through paid plans.

The new Memories Storage Plans include:

  • 100GB for $1.99/month

  • 250GB for Snapchat+ subscribers at $3.99/month

  • 5TB Platinum plan at $15.99/month

Snap says most users won’t be affected, as the majority aren’t near 5GB. Existing users over the limit will receive a one-year grace period before needing to choose a plan.

The move aims to diversify revenue beyond advertising, following Snap’s recent $9/month Lens+ subscription for exclusive AR effects. With this change, Snapchat joins companies like Google and Apple in monetising cloud storage.
