Deadly Accident on Bypass

Biaora | August 28, 2026 | A horrific road accident occurred late Wednesday night on the Biaora-Indore bypass in Madhya Pradesh, resulting in the tragic deaths of four passengers and injuries to 11 others. The sleeper bus, en route from Lucknow to Indore, went out of control on a dangerous '90-degree' curve overbridge in the Biaora Dehat police station jurisdiction and collided with the divider.

Cause of the Tragedy

The severity of the accident was evident as the bus scraped along the bridge's wall, tilting precariously. Witnesses reported that the bus lost control on the sharp bend of the overbridge, hit the railing, and skidded for a considerable distance. The impact was so severe that several passengers were thrown from the bus, falling directly off the bridge and succumbing to their injuries at the scene.

Dangerous Overbridge Design Implicated

This particular overbridge has long been known among locals and travellers as 'dangerous' due to its extremely sharp 90-degree turn. Preliminary investigations point to this winding and hazardous design as the primary cause of the accident. It is suspected that the driver could not control the bus on this unexpected sharp turn while travelling at high speed on the bypass during the night. Most passengers were asleep and unprepared for the sudden incident.

Rescue Operations and Medical Treatment

Upon receiving information about the accident, the Biaora Dehat police and the highway patrolling team immediately reached the spot. The entire administration, including the Superintendent of Police and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, also arrived at the scene and the Biaora Civil Hospital. With the help of locals, the police safely extricated passengers trapped inside the bus. All the injured were promptly taken to Biaora Civil Hospital.

Severely injured passengers were referred to the district hospital for further treatment, while some critical cases were also sent to Bhopal. The police have sent the bodies of the deceased for post-mortem and are informing their families. Officials believe the death toll may rise given the critical condition of some of the injured.

Traffic Resumed, Investigation Underway

The accident caused a significant traffic jam on the bypass. The police worked extensively to clear the congestion and restore normal traffic flow. A case has been registered, and a detailed investigation into the causes of the accident has commenced. This incident once again raises questions about the construction of such dangerous road infrastructure that inadvertently poses a threat to travellers' lives.
