Actor Shweta Tripathi has commenced shooting for the highly anticipated Mirzapur: The Film, reprising her fan-favourite role of Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta from the Prime Video series. This marks the first time the character will appear on the big screen.
Speaking about her return to the role, Shweta said, “Golu is not just a character for me, she has been a companion, a part of my life for so many years. To see her journey unfold on the big screen is overwhelming and surreal.”
The actor also expressed her fondness for Benaras, where much of the film is set. “Benaras is like my second home. From Masaan, Mirzapur Seasons 1 and 2, to Escape Live to Kalkoot, every project here has given me something unforgettable,” she said, adding that her trainer Tridev Pandey, who hails from the city, makes the experience even more personal.
Producers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment commented, “It is a landmark milestone for us to bring the quintessential Mirzapur experience to our audiences on the big screen. Over three successful seasons, this acclaimed franchise has struck all the right chords with fans through its powerful storytelling and memorable characters – from Kaleen Bhaiya, Guddu Bhaiya, and Munna Bhaiya, to name a few.”
Alongside Shweta, actors Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi, and Divyenndu are reprising their roles, while Jitendra Kumar and Ravi Kishan will join the ensemble cast.
Fans are eagerly awaiting how the gritty world of Mirzapur will translate from series to film, promising a cinematic experience full of familiar characters, intense drama, and action.
