Shubman Gill Ruled Out of First Test’s Fourth Innings Due to Neck Spasm; Under Hospital Observation

Team India suffered a major setback in the first Test against South Africa as Shubman Gill has been ruled out of further participation due to a neck spasm he sustained on Day 2. The BCCI confirmed that Gill was taken to a hospital for examination after stumps on Saturday (November 15).

Retired Hurt After Discomfort

Gill came out to bat early in the morning session after Washington Sundar’s dismissal. Facing South Africa off-spinner Simon Harmer, Gill attempted a slog sweep for four but immediately looked in severe discomfort, clutching the back of his neck.

The Indian physio assessed him on the field, and Gill was forced to retire hurt with restricted head movement. He did not return as India folded for 189/9, losing seven wickets in 28 overs.

Unavailable for Day 3 & Fourth Innings

With Gill unable to take the field on Day 3, India will effectively be one batter short in the fourth innings — a crucial disadvantage in a tight Test match.
