Shilpa Shetty Moves Bombay High Court Against Misuse of Her Name and Image Online

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty has approached the Bombay High Court seeking an injunction against what she describes as the unauthorised commercial exploitation of her name, image and identity by various online platforms.

The petition, filed through advocate Sana Raees Khan, argues that Shetty’s “personality and publicity rights” — including her name, likeness, voice and signature — have been used for commercial gain without her consent.

Web Portals Identified in Plea

The plea specifically names certain web portals alleged to be misusing the actor’s identity for promotional and monetary purposes. The matter will be listed for hearing in the coming days.

Advocate Khan said the misuse had escalated to a level where “legal intervention became imperative,” adding that no online entity has the right to weaponise a celebrity’s persona for undisclosed commercial benefit.

Seeks Immediate Restraint Orders

Shetty is seeking directions from the court to prevent any platform—current or future—from:

• Using her name

• Publishing her image or likeness

• Imitating her voice or signature

• Exploiting any element of her public personality

without prior authorization.

Not the First Such Case

Courts in Mumbai and Delhi have previously granted similar protections to other public figures.
