Sensex and Nifty Open Lower Amid Global Trade Concerns
Indian equity markets opened lower on Monday, October 13, 2025, tracking a sharp sell-off in global markets following the U.S. announcement of a 100% tariff on Chinese goods effective November 1.
The BSE Sensex dropped 451.82 points to 82,049, while the NSE Nifty 50 fell 109.55 points to 25,175.80 in early trade.
Among Sensex constituents, Tata Motors, Bharat Electronics, Tata Steel, Infosys, NTPC, and Axis Bank were major laggards. Conversely, Asian Paints, Bharti Airtel, Maruti, and Eternal were among the gainers.
Global Market Sell-Off
Asian markets also traded lower, with South Korea’s Kospi, Shanghai SSE Composite, and Hong Kong Hang Seng all seeing declines.
U.S. markets ended sharply lower on Friday, adding to investor caution:

Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money, noted:
"Investor sentiment turns cautious after the U.S. announced a 100% tariff on all Chinese goods effective November 1, rekindling fears of a renewed trade war. Although President Trump later softened his stance, saying the U.S. does not intend to hurt China, investor caution persists amid renewed global uncertainty."
