Market Overview

Indian equity benchmarks experienced fluctuations after a strong start. The Nifty 50 initially rose to 24,002 but then traded 0.05% lower at 23,894.35. The Sensex gained as much as 352 points to 76,220, later settling up 0.05% at 75,909.19.

Sectorally, Nifty IT led the gains, rising 2.52%. Nifty PSU Bank, Realty, and Pharma also saw positive movement, gaining between 0.77% and 0.81%. Nifty Defence was the top sectoral loser, down 0.54%.

RBI's Economic Outlook

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) projects India's economy to remain resilient in FY27, supported by strong macroeconomic fundamentals. Inflation is expected to align with targets, though geopolitical tensions pose potential risks.

The RBI's annual report for 2025-26 highlighted that domestic bond yields could face pressure from rising oil prices. The central bank's balance sheet expanded by 20.6% year-on-year to ₹92 lakh crore.

Net income rose to ₹2.87 lakh crore from ₹2.69 lakh crore in FY25. Gross income increased to ₹4.28 lakh crore from ₹3.38 lakh crore.

Reliance Industries' AGM

Reliance Industries will seek shareholder approval for internal transactions exceeding ₹16.64 lakh crore over the next five fiscal years, involving Jio Platforms and Reliance Jio Infocomm.

This includes over ₹13 lakh crore linked to Reliance Jio services sold through Reliance Retail's network. The company's 49th AGM is scheduled for June 19, 2026.

Reliance stated that these related-party transactions are not new, and shareholder approval is being sought to continue arrangements from FY28 to FY32.

Ashok Leyland's Performance

Ashok Leyland MD and CEO reported that demand remains resilient, citing VAHAN data. The company is not experiencing a loss of retail demand. The current order book is strong, with expectations of additional orders this year.

The company noted strong performance in Q3 and Q4, with some moderation expected in the light commercial vehicle segment. Challenges exist at the logistics level, but not in demand.
