Senior Journalist Threaned at Dhaba, Rescued by Police

Incident at Shukla Dhaba

MIRZAPUR | August 30, 2026 | In a distressing incident at Shukla Dhaba, located in Patulki Shivmurti Nagar within the Lal J Kotwali area, a senior journalist, Shashi Bhushan Dubey ‘Kanchaniya’, was allegedly subjected to misconduct and life threats on Sunday evening. The journalist has accused lawyer Virendra Giri, a resident of Basahi Kalan, of arriving at the dhaba with his associates to create a dispute and issue threats.

The 112 police service, responding to the situation, intervened and de-escalated the conflict. According to journalist Shashi Bhushan Dubey, he was covering crime news related to two press releases issued by the police department at approximately 6:30 PM. It was at this time that lawyer Virendra Giri reportedly arrived with three companions.

Allegations of Prior Dispute

The journalist claims that the lawyer not only behaved indecently but also threatened his life. As the altercation escalated, the dhaba owner, Kunal Tripathi, and his staff attempted to mediate. The 112 police team arrived shortly after, bringing the situation under control and safely escorting the journalist and his sons, Rajiv Ranjan and Romesh Ranjan, back to their residence.

Shashi Bhushan Dubey alleges that the lawyer previously worked as an ad-hoc teacher at his college. A dispute has been ongoing between the two parties regarding this appointment and related documents. The journalist stated that this existing conflict was the reason behind the alleged pressure and threats.

Further Accusations and Unclear Investigation

The journalist also claimed that attempts were made to threaten him at his home. He further accused the lawyer of violating Bar Council rules with his conduct. Additionally, allegations were made concerning the lawyer practicing law in court during his tenure as an ad-hoc teacher, though these specific claims could not be independently verified.

The journalist has lodged a complaint with senior officials, including the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police, demanding security for himself and his family. He stated that the alleged threats have created an atmosphere of fear within his household. As of now, there is no official information regarding the police's actions or the current status of the investigation into the allegations. The true nature of the accusations will only become clear after the police investigation and the recording of statements from both parties.
