Farmers Face Crisis as Secretaries Strike Over Salary Discrepancies
Mahoba, October 22, 2026 – Farmers in Mahoba district are facing immense difficulties as the indefinite strike by the secretaries of cooperative societies, demanding resolution of salary disparities and wage hikes, continues. The ongoing protest has led to the closure of cooperative society offices across the region, bringing fertilizer distribution to a complete standstill.
The strike, coinciding with the critical Rabi crop sowing season, has created a severe crisis for farmers. Despite sufficient stock of approximately 550 bags of urea at the Ajanar cooperative society, farmers holding tokens are returning home dejected, unable to receive the essential fertilizer.
Farmers' Hopes Dashed Amidst Fertilizer Shortage and Strike
This situation is particularly concerning as farmers had pinned significant hopes on the Rabi season after the failure of the Kharif season. Previously, fertilizer scarcity and a token system had caused distress, and now, the indefinite strike by secretaries, even with adequate stock available, presents a new and serious challenge.
There is a strong apprehension that the delay in receiving fertilizer on time will impact agricultural activities, directly affecting farmers' incomes and food security. According to farmers, obtaining fertilizer from cooperative societies is an indispensable part of their sowing process.
Even with the token system in place, they are facing distribution obstacles when fertilizer is available. This strike is not only a blow to farmers but also to the region's agricultural economy. Farmers are continuously appealing for a swift resolution to their problems so they can complete sowing operations on time.
E-POS Machine Operations Halted Due to Secretary's Absence
A critical aspect of the fertilizer distribution system is the operation of E-POS (Electronic Point of Sale) machines. AR Cooperative N. Anuragi clarified that the E-POS machines used for fertilizer distribution are operated solely through the individual ID of the respective society's secretary.
With the secretaries on strike, the operation of these machines in their absence is technically impossible. Consequently, fertilizer distribution via E-POS machines has completely stopped until the secretaries end their strike and return to work. This is a technical hurdle that will prevent distribution until the secretaries' demands are met.
Growing Anger and Concern Among Farmers
In light of this unexpected and severe situation, farmers have strongly urged the district administration to arrange for alternative fertilizer distribution methods. Farmers state that they require fertilizer at any cost during this crucial period to ensure timely sowing of Rabi crops. They want fertilizer to be made available as soon as possible to avoid disruption in the sowing cycle and protect their hard work.
Currently, there is a clear lack of concrete steps or alternative arrangements from the administrative level to resolve this problem. As a result, widespread anger and deep concern prevail among farmers in the region. Many farmers have expressed their frustration, stating that the government should take farmers' problems seriously and implement measures to ensure smooth distribution systems during such times.
