Schools Reopen in Leh as Curfew Restrictions Ease

With normalcy gradually returning to Leh after violent clashes on September 24 left four people dead, the district administration has ordered the reopening of schools up to Class 8 from Friday.

An official order issued by Assistant Commissioner (Revenue) Shabbir Hussain, on the directions of the district magistrate, also permits shops to function and public transport (small buses) to operate between 10 am and 6 pm.

However, the relaxation comes with a caveat: prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita remain in force, which ban the assembly of five or more persons.

The administration said the decision follows a gradual easing of curfew measures. Authorities had first relaxed restrictions for seven hours on September 30, extending the window further on October 1 and 2.
