SBI Group to Sell 1% Stake in NSE's ₹30,000 Crore IPO
State Bank of India plans to divest approximately 1% of its stake in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) during its upcoming ₹30,000 crore IPO.

SBI Group to Divest Stake in NSE IPO
The State Bank of India (SBI) is planning to sell approximately 1 percent of its stake in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) during the latter's proposed Initial Public Offering (IPO) valued at ₹30,000 crore. This stake sale could include holdings from SBI itself and its subsidiary, SBI Capital Markets.
According to sources, SBI may individually sell around 0.65 percent of its direct stake in NSE. Concurrently, SBI Capital Markets could divest approximately 0.35 percent of its holdings in the offering. Combined, these sales would reduce the SBI Group's total ownership in NSE by about 1 percent.
Current Holdings and Impact of Sale
Currently, SBI holds approximately 3.23 percent of NSE's total equity. Additionally, SBI Capital Markets possesses a stake of about 4.33 percent in NSE. Following the proposed stake sale, the percentage of ownership in NSE for both these entities will decrease.
NSE's proposed IPO is anticipated to be one of the largest public offerings in the Indian capital market. There has been considerable market anticipation for NSE's listing for a prolonged period.
IPO Framework and Objectives
The final structure of the IPO and the total amount to be raised will be clarified only after obtaining approvals from regulatory bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and completing the offer document process. The divestment of its stake in NSE by the SBI Group is viewed as a strategy for better capital utilization and portfolio balancing.
On the other hand, NSE's IPO is expected to further strengthen the infrastructure of the Indian stock market and boost investor participation in the capital market sector.
