Youth Drug-Free Crucial for Developed India
Gwalior | September 3, 2026 - The active participation of youth, free from substance abuse, is paramount for the construction of a developed India. The severe physical, mental, and social repercussions of drug consumption pose a significant concern not only for individuals but for society as a whole.
This statement was made by chief speaker Dr. Sunita Rajput during an awareness workshop organized under the 'Drug Eradication Program' by the National Service Scheme (NSS) at Madhav College. The workshop was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
The program was presided over by the Principal of Madhav College, Dr. Shivkumar Sharma. Distinguished guests included Mrs. Aarti Batham (Nursing College), Senior Program Officer Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, Program Officer Dr. Sarita Dixit, and NCC Officer Lieutenant Moolayam Singh Jadon.
Youth Power Called Upon Against Drugs
Dr. Sunita Rajput, also an Assistant Professor at the Government College of Nursing, Gwalior, asserted that if the youth unite, the fight against drug addiction can be won. She highlighted that drugs are gradually hollowing out the youth, presenting a serious threat to India's future.
The consumption of drugs not only ruins the younger generation but also invites deadly diseases like AIDS, making the vision of a healthy India difficult to achieve. The detrimental impact of drugs on social prestige and family security was also stressed.
Impact on Social Standing and Family Security
Dr. Shivkumar Sharma emphasized that drug addiction tarnishes an individual's social prestige and destroys their identity. He stated that it is imperative to break free from the web of drugs to empower and strengthen the youth and protect families.
The consequences of drug addiction can affect any family, and its devastating results are borne by everyone. He also noted that such programs in colleges aim to protect the younger generation from the clutches of addiction.
Guest of honor Mrs. Aarti Batham remarked that individuals addicted to drugs gradually become alienated from friends, family, and society. Drug abuse diminishes the will to live and leads individuals towards a void. She clarified that drugs can never be a means to relieve stress.
The workshop was successfully conducted by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, while Dr. Sarita Dixit delivered the vote of thanks. A large number of students from NCC and NSS, along with Dr. Vijay Pandey and Dr. Deepak Shinde, were present at the event.
