Savarna Morcha Announces Complete Shutdown in Guna

The Savarna Sangharsh Morcha has called for a complete shutdown in Guna city on Wednesday, September 10, 2026. This action is in protest against the current reservation policy, new UGC regulations, and the alleged misuse of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (SC/ST Act).

Morcha officials presented the outline of the protest during a press conference on Tuesday. They urged the government to reconsider these policies, asserting that the current reservation system violates the principle of equal opportunity for the nation's youth and should be replaced with a merit-based system.

Key Demands and Grievances

During the press conference, Morcha officials demanded immediate amendments to the reservation system, advocating for a basis of 'respect for merit' and 'equality of opportunity'. They stated that the current reservation policy is detrimental to the future of the youth and requires a more equitable approach.

The Morcha believes that selections should solely be based on merit to ensure talented youth receive their due recognition. Furthermore, they advocated for stringent amendments to the SC/ST Act to prevent its alleged misuse. Morcha representatives claimed the law is being used to settle personal scores or file false accusations, causing distress to innocent individuals.

UGC Rules and Concerns

The recently issued regulations by the University Grants Commission (UGC) were also highlighted as a cause for concern for students' futures. Morcha leaders emphasized that these rules could impact admissions and appointments in higher education, potentially disadvantaging qualified candidates.

They urged the government to ensure the law is not misused and is implemented impartially. The Morcha stressed the need for a system that upholds fairness and prevents the exploitation of the legal framework.

Protest Plan and Future Actions

The protest will commence with a large rally from Shastri Park at 10:30 AM on Wednesday. This rally will proceed through major city routes to the Collectorate, where Morcha members will submit a memorandum to administrative officials detailing all their demands.

The Morcha clarified that submitting the memorandum at the Collectorate is not the end but the beginning of their struggle. They declared that indefinite धरना प्रदर्शन (sit-in protests) will continue until the government amends the existing laws and fulfills their demands. The Morcha appealed to all citizens, especially the youth and students, to make this shutdown a success.

Call for Societal Support

They emphasized that this movement is not solely for the Savarna community but for upholding the principles of equality and justice in society. Preparations for the protest have intensified at the local level, with efforts underway to garner support from various sections of the community. Local traders in Guna have also been urged to support the shutdown.
