Satyagraha Enters Second Day Over Road Demand in Etawah

In Etawah district, Uttar Pradesh, the satyagraha by villagers demanding a road continued into its second day on August 14, 2026. Under the banner 'Give us a road or give us death,' an ahimsa (non-violent) protest was held from 10 AM to 5 PM, with five villagers observing a hunger strike.

Administration Engages with Protesters

The coordinator of the satyagraha, Deepak Raj, stated that local administration officials visited the protest site and attempted to find a resolution. However, the movement will persist until the villagers' primary demand—the construction of a permanent road—is met. A delegation from the district administration, including the DPRO, BDO, ADO, and Panchayat Secretary, arrived around 1 PM to assess the situation and presented a proposed solution.

Railway Overbridge Proposal Accepted

A key component of the proposed solution was the construction of a railway overbridge. The protesters welcomed this proposal with applause and accepted it wholeheartedly. The Panchayat Secretary also handed over a memorandum to the District Magistrate, highlighting the demand for the railway overbridge.

Stance on Permanent Road Remains Firm

While an agreement has been reached regarding the railway overbridge, the villagers remain steadfast in their demand for a permanent road. They assert that their satyagraha will continue until a sturdy and accessible road is provided. The villagers are not entirely satisfied with the solution offered by the officials, as it does not fully address their core demand. Dialogue between the officials and the villagers is expected to continue on this issue.

Hunger Strike to Continue in Shifts

Satyagraha coordinator Deepak Raj also informed that tomorrow, August 15, 2026, Vivek, Buddhapriya, Arvind, Anshul, and Gaurav will undertake the hunger strike. This demonstrates the villagers' strong resolve to sustain the movement and their commitment expressed in a phased manner. The primary objective of this satyagraha is to ensure accessible and safe transportation for the local residents.
