Sanitation Workers Trained in Chhatarpur on Modern Methods and 'Namaste Yojana'

In Chhatarpur, a one-day workshop was organized for sanitation employees and de-sludge operators from the division. The training, conducted under the Solid Waste Management Rules as per the directions of the Urban Administration and Development Department, focused on modern cleaning methods and the benefits provided under the 'Namaste Yojana'. This initiative is part of a series of similar programs being held in Bhopal and Sagar.

The program was inaugurated by K.R. Sharma, Regional Director of the All India Institute of Local Self-Government. He highlighted the institute's hundred-year history and explained how its various diploma courses create employment opportunities for youth.

Emphasis on Safety Equipment and Modern Technologies

Dr. Ketna Matkar, an expert from Delhi, addressed sanitation workers from Tikamgarh, Panna, and Chhatarpur. She provided information on techniques for treating and recycling wastewater for water conservation. Dr. Matkar placed particular emphasis on the precautions to be taken during sewage and septic tank cleaning.

Dr. Matkar clarified that the use of gas detectors and modern safety kits is extremely crucial for life safety. She stressed the importance of such equipment for workers engaged in hazardous tasks.

'Namaste Yojana' Details and Financial Support

D.D. Tiwari, a trainer from the Economic and Health Security Department, provided detailed information about the 'Namaste Yojana'. He explained that the scheme aims to make sanitation workers and their families self-reliant.

Under the 'Namaste Yojana', self-help groups will receive financial assistance of up to fifty lakh rupees, while individuals can receive loans ranging from five to fifteen lakh rupees, along with health insurance coverage of up to five lakh rupees. Tiwari also specified that personnel wishing to purchase modern machinery such as vacuum cleaners or suction machines will need to obtain a license from the District Level Responsible Sanitation Authority, chaired by the District Collector.

Emergency Response Units Established

To prevent fatalities due to poisonous gases, an 'Emergency Sanitation Responsible Unit' has been formed in each urban body. This unit will be responsible for immediate response in critical situations.

Approximately sixty-five employees from various local bodies participated in this training workshop and gained vital information regarding safety protocols and the new scheme's provisions. The training aimed to enhance their skills and awareness.
