Sanitation Workers Present Demands

The Madhya Pradesh Sanitation Mazdoor Sangh, Itarsi Branch, led by State President Mahesh Arya, submitted a comprehensive 14-point charter of demands to the Joint Director, Urban Administration and Development Department, Narmadapuram. The memorandum strongly urges for the prompt resolution of issues concerning sanitation employees.

The demands include improvements in salaries, EPF, arrears payment, regularization, safety equipment, and other crucial employee welfare matters. State President Mahesh Arya expressed concern over the alleged unfair treatment of sanitation workers employed by the municipality. He highlighted that a mere few minutes or half an hour's delay in reporting to work results in the deduction of three days' wages.

Concerns Over Wage Deductions and Pending Payments

Arya clarified that according to service rules, wage deductions should only be based on actual absence, and he demanded an immediate end to this impractical practice. The memorandum also draws attention to the long-pending payment of EPF, GPF, and arrears for employees, noting that they are not even provided with information regarding these payments.

Arya stated that several employees do not receive their salaries for two to three months, leading to severe financial hardship for their families. The union has demanded that salaries be paid by the 5th of each month, all pending arrears be cleared promptly, and EPF amounts be deposited on time.

Demands for Regularization and Safety Gear

The charter also includes a demand for the regularization of daily wage employees. Furthermore, significant demands were raised for outsourcing employees to be provided with the pay scale determined by the Labour Department, along with essential safety and other facilities such as monsoon raincoats, uniforms before August 15, safety shoes, weekly offs, and blankets.

Advocate Siddharth Arya underscored the importance of sanitation workers, stating they are the backbone of the city's sanitation system. He emphasized that their labor and rights must be respected, and the administration should address their problems sensitively and legally, ensuring they receive their statutory rights.

State President Mahesh Arya warned that if the demands are not resolved within the stipulated timeframe, a delegation of the Madhya Pradesh Sanitation Mazdoor Sangh will proceed to Bhopal to meet with the Commissioner of the Urban Administration and Development Department. They will apprise the Commissioner of the employees' issues to ensure swift justice.
