Salman Khan Moves Delhi High Court to Protect Personality Rights

Bollywood actor Salman Khan has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality and publicity rights, requesting a ban on the unauthorised use of his name, image, likeness, and persona by social media platforms and e-commerce websites.

The petition will be heard on Thursday, December 11, 2025, by Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora.

Khan’s plea argues that unlicensed use of his identity misleads the public and allows others to wrongly profit from his reputation. The legal concept—known as the right to publicity—grants individuals control over commercial use of their name, image, and personality traits.

Increasing Legal Action by Celebrities

In recent months, several prominent public figures have filed similar petitions in the Delhi High Court. These include:

• Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan

• Hrithik Roshan, Ajay Devgn

• Karan Johar

• Kumar Sanu

• Akkineni Nagarjuna

• Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

• Sudhir Chaudhary

• Raj Shamani

The court has already granted interim protection to many of them.

Separately, Telugu star Jr NTR (NTR Rao Junior) has also filed a plea to safeguard his personality rights. The court is yet to pronounce an order on his petition.
