Sagar Hooch Tragedy Sparks Political Outcry

Politics has intensified in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district following a tragic incident where several people died after consuming poisonous liquor. Leader of Opposition, Umang Singhar, visited the Banda area on Sunday to meet the families of the deceased. He announced an immediate financial aid of ₹50,000 to each affected family.

Singhar strongly questioned the state's BJP government over the incident and demanded accountability from the Chief Minister. He also visited the Sagar Medical College to inquire about the condition of those hospitalized and assured them of the best possible medical care.

Visit to Bamura Village

Following his hospital visit, Umang Singhar proceeded to Bamura village in Banda tehsil, the epicenter of the tragedy where five lives were lost. There, he offered his condolences to the grieving families, gathered details about the incident, and promised all possible assistance to the victims.

Government Criticized Over Illegal Liquor Trade

The Leader of Opposition characterized the Sagar hooch tragedy as a stark proof of the rampant illegal liquor trade in the state. He questioned how such a business could flourish under the administration's nose, especially when the Home Department is directly under the Chief Minister's purview.

Singhar demanded a high-level inquiry to uncover the patronage behind this entire network and urged the government to take decisive action. He emphasized the need to prevent future occurrences by dismantling the illegal liquor supply chain.

Demands for Compensation and Justice

Umang Singhar put forth several demands to the government:

• Each family of a deceased victim should receive compensation of ₹25 lakh.
• One member from each affected family should be provided with a government job.
• The government must bear the complete medical expenses for all victims undergoing treatment.

He stressed that stern action should not only be taken against the direct culprits but also against the officials and individuals providing them protection. The Leader of Opposition called for effective action against the entire illegal liquor network to ensure such tragedies are not repeated.
