Russia-Ukraine War: Hundreds of Drone Attacks Rock Both Nations, Missiles Also Unleashed
Intense drone and missile exchanges between Russia and Ukraine have escalated the nearly four-year conflict, causing significant casualties and damage.

Escalation of Conflict: Massive Drone and Missile Barrage
The brutal war between Russia and Ukraine, now in its fourth year, has taken a significant turn. On Sunday, a large-scale exchange of drone and missile attacks between the two countries dramatically heightened tensions. Ukraine launched hundreds of drones targeting various parts of Russia, while Russia retaliated by striking Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure.
Both sides suffered numerous fatalities, with extensive damage inflicted on civilian populations and vital infrastructure. This aerial assault is being described as one of the largest since Ukraine initiated the war against Russia.
Heightened Alert and Russian Claims of Drone Destruction
The attacks prompted a high alert for air defense systems across several Russian regions, including the capital, Moscow. According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, approximately 600 drones were heading towards the capital, which Russian air defense systems attempted to intercept.
The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that a total of 822 Ukrainian drones were destroyed overnight, with a significant number of them being directed at Moscow.
Significant Damage in Russia's Southwest Regions
The most substantial impact of the Ukrainian drone attacks was felt in Russia's southwestern Rostov region. Regional Governor Yuri Slyusar reported that over 150 drones targeted three cities in the area. These attacks resulted in five reported deaths, along with severe damage to multiple homes and a railway station.
The situation was further exacerbated by incidents of wildfires in forested areas. In the city of Podolsk, a warehouse belonging to the online retail company Wildberries caught fire, causing property damage and widespread fear among residents.
Russian Retaliation Inflicts Losses on Ukraine
Ukraine also sustained heavy losses due to Russia's retaliatory strikes. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that several civilians lost their lives and many were injured in the Russian missile attacks. In the city of Kryvyi Rih, a missile strike killed two people and injured 14.
One death was reported from Sumy, while a man and a woman were among the casualties in the southern Zaporizhzhia region. Zelenskyy accused Russia of targeting areas within the reach of its ballistic missiles, deeming it a significant threat to civilians and critical infrastructure.
Indian Industrialist's Factory Also Affected
The Russian retaliation also impacted a major industrial facility linked to Indian industrialist Lakshmi Mittal. Information emerged about damage to the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plant in Ukraine's Kryvyi Rih due to a Russian missile attack. This plant is a crucial part of the ArcelorMittal group and holds significant importance in Ukraine's industrial landscape.
Following the attack, the company has partially halted operations at the site. While the full extent of the damage is not yet clear, the strike on industrial facilities once again underscores the economic and industrial impact of the war.
Drone Warfare: The New Face of Conflict
The use of drones has consistently emerged as a primary strategy in the Russia-Ukraine war. Both nations are employing a large number of drones to target each other's military bases, energy plants, industrial zones, and other critical structures. Ukraine has long focused on developing the capability for long-range drone attacks within Russia, while Russia continues to launch missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and strategic locations.
The use of hundreds of drones on Sunday clearly indicates that both sides are rapidly enhancing their aerial offensive capabilities.
War Intensity and Uncertain Future
With nearly four years completed, no lasting solution to this war has been found. The conflict has resulted in massive loss of life and property, with continuous attacks on vital cities and infrastructure. Recent developments demonstrate that the war continues to maintain its intensity.
While Ukraine is increasing its capacity by conducting drone attacks inside Russian territory, Russia is maintaining pressure on Ukraine with its missile and drone power. The large-scale aerial attacks on Sunday have once again raised the question of when this conflict will end. Currently, amidst continuous attacks on both ground and aerial fronts, both sides appear to be intensifying their military activities rather than retreating.
