Russia Launches Massive Overnight Attack on Kyiv; 11 Injured, Fires Across City

Russia carried out a large-scale combined drone and missile attack on Kyiv early Friday, triggering multiple explosions, fires, and widespread debris across the Ukrainian capital.

Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed at least 11 people were injured, including five hospitalised – one man critically and a pregnant woman among the victims.

Citywide Damage & Emergency Response

  • Explosions were heard across nearly every district as air defence systems activated.

  • Officials urged residents to stay in shelters due to the ongoing attack.

  • Power, water, and heating systems sustained damage, risking outages.

  • Multiple fires broke out in residential areas as falling debris hit buildings and cars.

District-wise Impact

  • Darnytskyi: Debris hit a residential yard and school premises; a car caught fire.

  • Dniprovskyi: Three apartment buildings and a private home were damaged; open area fire reported.

  • Podilskyi: Five residential buildings and one non-residential structure damaged.

Emergency crews were deployed across the city as drone and missile debris fell over wide areas.

Kyiv Region

Outside the capital, strikes hit critical infrastructure and homes.
A 55-year-old man in Bila Tserkva suffered severe burns and was hospitalised.

Context

The attack comes amid renewed pressure from the European Union, which this week urged Ukraine to intensify its anti-corruption efforts even as Brussels reaffirmed continued financial and military support.
