Reduced Waiting Period for Rural LPG Cylinder Bookings

The central government, acknowledging the delays and inconvenience faced by consumers in rural areas regarding domestic LPG cylinder supply, has implemented significant changes to gas booking regulations. Under the new rule, the mandatory waiting period for booking domestic gas cylinders in rural areas has been reduced from 45 days to 25 days.

This change will be effective immediately, allowing rural consumers to book cylinders again at the same 25-day interval as their urban counterparts. Previously, consumers, particularly in rural areas, faced a long wait of approximately 45 days for gas cylinder supply due to delivery delays. This delay created serious cooking-related problems for families, especially those in the low and middle-income brackets.

Addressing Rural Consumer Grievances

Many rural consumers had pointed out that gas cylinders were available in cities in a comparatively shorter time, while villages faced extended waiting periods, which felt like discrimination. Responding to these complaints, social activist Dr. Sushil Samrat had raised the issue, demanding from the concerned authorities and gas agencies that domestic gas cylinders be made available in rural areas at a 25-day interval, similar to the provision in urban areas.

He emphasized that rural consumers should not face any form of discrimination and timely access to gas cylinders is a basic necessity for them. This move by the government addresses the long-standing demand for equitable service delivery.

Improved Supply and Reduced Pending Bookings

According to government sources, the LPG cylinder supply situation has now shown considerable improvement, with a significant reduction in the backlog of refilling bookings. This enhanced supply mechanism has prompted the central government to reduce the booking interval in rural areas.

Previously, the refilling booking interval for rural areas was set at 45 days, while it remained 25 days for urban areas, largely due to pressure on LPG supply caused by conflicts in West Asia. This disparity has now been eliminated as the situation has normalized.

Addressing Gas Cylinder Delivery Delays

Typically, gas cylinder delivery delays can stem from various reasons, including supply chain disruptions, transportation issues, or excessive booking pressure at a particular agency. To address these problems, the government has made efforts to improve the distribution system, ensuring timely cylinder delivery to consumers and minimizing disruptions in their daily lives.
