Roadways Staff Protest Against Irregular Vehicle Operations

Farrukhabad, Uttar Pradesh | October 22, 2026 - Employees of the Uttar Pradesh Roadways Employees Union staged a protest at the Farrukhabad Roadways Bus Stop on Wednesday. The demonstration was held to oppose the illegal operation of private, unregistered vehicles commonly known as 'daggamar' vehicles.

The employees raised slogans with great fervor, expressing deep concern over the revenue losses being incurred by the Transport Corporation. This protest was organized under the call of state president Ramji Tripathi and saw the participation of a large number of roadways employees.

Union officials submitted a memorandum to the Regional Manager (ARM) Rajesh Kumar. This memorandum was addressed to the Transport Minister, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, and nine senior officials of the Transport Department. The union detailed how the uncontrolled and illegal operation of these irregular vehicles is causing a severe decline in the revenue of the Uttar Pradesh Transport Corporation.

Demand to Shut Down Illegal Ticket Counters

These unregistered vehicles are operating without any government regulation, leading to a reduction in passenger numbers for roadways buses and directly impacting the corporation's revenue. The protest, led by Regional Vice President Guddu Shukla, also saw the presence of Branch Secretary Manoj Shukla, Branch President Neeraj Agnihotri, and hundreds of other employees.

The union specifically demanded the immediate closure of illegal ticket counters for private irregular vehicles operating in various parts of the city, including Maseni Chauraha. These counters lure passengers, directly affecting the business of roadways ticket counters. Employees stated that these vehicles are operating without permits or fitness certificates, thereby compromising passenger safety.

The employees urged the administration to take immediate and effective action on this serious issue to improve the financial condition of the transport corporation and safeguard its revenue. They believe that the corporation's income can only be increased through appropriate action. In this regard, the union expects officials to curb these illegal activities within a specific timeframe.

The union has warned of escalating their protest with a larger movement if the administration fails to address the issue. Roadways personnel argue that despite their adherence to regular operations and rules, these illegal vehicles are directly harming their business, which they deem unfair.
