Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday launched an aggressive campaign push in Jubilee Hills, urging voters to deliver a 30,000-vote majority for Congress candidate V. Naveen Yadav in the upcoming November 11 byelection. He pledged that a Congress victory would bring large-scale investments for the constituency, promising “development worth hundreds of crores.”
Revanth Targets KTR and BRS Leadership
Campaigning through roadshows and street-corner meetings across Erragadda and Borabanda, Revanth Reddy used the platform to mount a sharp attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leadership.
He demanded that K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) first respond to corruption allegations made by his own sister, K. Kavitha, before seeking votes.
“Kavitha herself said that KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao amassed wealth through irregular contracts and commissions. Before stepping into Jubilee Hills, KTR must answer those charges,” Revanth said.
He accused the BRS of losing its “moral right” to speak of ethics or sentiment and alleged that the party had betrayed Telangana’s political ideals.
“The People Have Sent the Car to the Shed”
Drawing laughter and applause from supporters, Revanth mocked the BRS’s electoral fortunes, saying,
“The people have already sent the car to the shed. Those who once roamed in luxury cars are now going around in autos in Jubilee Hills.”
The “car” reference alluded to the BRS party symbol.
He also took a personal swipe at KTR, remarking,
“The man who expelled his own sister from the party over property disputes is now going around seeking votes for another family. The proverb fits perfectly — one who won’t feed his own mother is now offering gold bangles to his aunt.”
Remembering P. Janardhan Reddy’s Legacy
Revanth sought to emotionally connect with local voters by invoking the memory of Congress stalwart P. Janardhan Reddy (PJR), who represented Jubilee Hills for years. He announced that Borabanda would be renamed PJR Borabanda in his honour.
“When PJR, the people’s leader, passed away, every party supported making the bypoll unanimous in his memory. But KCR broke that tradition by fielding a rival candidate. That’s when this bad political culture began,” Revanth said.
The Chief Minister promised to return to the constituency for a “victory rally” after the election.
Development, Governance, and “Truth Over Emotion”
Highlighting the Congress government’s focus on delivery, Revanth contrasted his administration’s welfare and governance record with what he termed “BRS mismanagement.”
“The women never ate the poor-quality rice given by BRS; they fed it to their pets and cattle. Now they’re consuming it because of the quality our government ensures,” he said.
He cited the example of former cricketer and ex-MP Mohammad Azharuddin, saying he had honoured his promise to give him a ministerial post even though Azharuddin had not won his election — an example, he said, of Congress’ credibility.
“This campaign is not about emotion or sympathy. It’s about truth, governance, and progress,” the Chief Minister said as residents waved Congress flags during his roadshow.
A High-Stakes Byelection
The Jubilee Hills byelection was necessitated by the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath. The BRS has fielded his wife, Maganti Sunitha, hoping to retain the seat on a sympathy wave. However, Congress is mounting an aggressive campaign to reclaim its stronghold, positioning Naveen Yadav as a young and dynamic local face.
Political analysts view the contest as a key test of Congress’ urban influence in Hyderabad and a barometer of public sentiment ahead of next year’s Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
