Renewable Energy: A Future Necessity Requiring Collective Conservation Efforts

The Cliff News | Gwalior | August 29, 2026

An important event held at Madhav Mahavidyalaya in Gwalior underscored the increasing significance of renewable energy and the immediate necessity for its conservation. Renewable energy, derived from natural and pollution-free sources, which is continuously available and poses no threat of depletion, was presented as an indispensable solution to tackle future energy challenges.

Key Role of Renewable Energy Sources

The chief guest speaker, Dr. Ram Kishore Upadhyay, clarified that sources of renewable energy such as solar, wind, hydropower, biogas, and bioenergy are not only instrumental in facing the energy crisis but also play a crucial role in environmental protection.

This program, organized by the Indian Knowledge Tradition Cell under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Madhav Mahavidyalaya on the theme 'Renewable Energy Production and Conservation,' saw Dr. Upadhyay emphasize in his address that renewable energy sources emit negligible harmful greenhouse gases. Consequently, their importance is steadily growing from the perspective of sustainable development and environmental security.

He stated that the use of renewable energy leads to the creation of a clean environment and reduces dependence on traditional energy sources, which is extremely necessary in today's global environmental conditions.

Energy Conservation in Daily Life

Dr. Ram Kishore Upadhyay advocated for making energy conservation a part of daily life, rather than confining it to major government policies and projects. He suggested that even small changes in everyday life can significantly reduce energy consumption.

Using energy as per need and in a balanced manner, employing energy-efficient appliances, adopting green building concepts, and utilizing public transportation more than private vehicles are all effective energy conservation measures that anyone can easily adopt. Embracing these habits not only saves energy at an individual level but also contributes to the nation's energy security as a collective effort.

Rising Demand and the Imperative of Alternative Energy

Due to a growing population, rapid industrial development, and changes in lifestyle, there has been an unprecedented surge in global energy demand. In this context, Dr. Upadhyay highlighted the need to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and prioritize alternative and renewable energy sources.

He remarked that the widespread use of renewable sources like solar and wind energy can play a vital role in meeting future energy needs while simultaneously safeguarding the environment. This will not only fulfill the requirements of the present generation but also ensure the availability of energy resources for future generations.

Collective Responsibility and the Role of Educational Institutions

Presiding over the program, the officiating Principal of Madhav Mahavidyalaya, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Pandey, described the production and conservation of renewable energy as a present-day imperative. He stated that the continuously depleting reserves of traditional energy sources and global circumstances affecting energy supply have confronted the entire world with the challenge of an energy crisis. In such a situation, it becomes extremely necessary to adopt alternative energy sources in time.

Dr. Pandey also emphasized that safeguarding energy resources for future generations is the collective responsibility of the entire society. In this direction, educational institutions should also play a significant role. Schools and colleges should raise awareness among students about energy conservation and make them sensitive to this critical issue, so they can become responsible citizens of the future.

Program Organization and Participation

The program was part of a series of activities scheduled under the quarterly calendar of Indian Knowledge Tradition, received from the Commissioner Higher Education. The program was skillfully conducted by Dr. Manoj Awasthi, Coordinator of the Indian Knowledge Tradition Cell. Meanwhile, a vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Vikas Shukla.

On this occasion, other distinguished faculty members of the college, including Dr. Sanjay Rastogi, Dr. Santosh Sharma, Dr. Rajesh Mishra, Dr. Vijay Pandey, Dr. Mandakini Sharma, Dr. Rakesh Karheria, Dr. Deepak Shinde, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Dr. Sarita Dixit, Dr. Deepti Narang, along with other teachers and staff of the college, were present in large numbers. The atmosphere of the program was knowledge-enriching and inspirational, conveying the importance of renewable energy to all attendees.
