Triber Gets a Much-Needed Power Boost
The Renault Triber, launched in 2019, is finally getting a power upgrade. The sub-4 metre MPV, known for accommodating seven passengers, has faced criticism for its underpowered 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. Now, after seven years, Renault is addressing this issue.
At an India-specific event on April 16th, Renault revealed plans for two new Triber variants to enhance its appeal.
Turbo Petrol Variant Details
A new variant will feature a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine (HR10). This is aimed at customers willing to pay extra for more power and torque. This engine is the same as the one in the Renault Kiger.
The HR10 engine will be paired with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. A CVT option will also be available. In the Kiger, this engine delivers 100 PS (99 hp) and 160 Nm of torque with the manual and 100 PS (99 hp) and 152 Nm of torque with the CVT.
CNG Variant with Factory Fitted Kit
The second new variant will feature a bi-fuel petrol-CNG engine. Unlike the dealer-installed CNG kits, this will be a factory-fitted setup. The design incorporates two compact cylinders placed under the boot area, instead of one large cylinder.
This dual-cylinder setup preserves boot space. The Triber currently offers 84 litres of boot space, expandable to 625 litres with the third row folded.
Turbo Power for CNG Too!
The new Triber CNG variant will use the 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine, unlike the current CNG Triber with the dealer-installed kit which utilizes the naturally aspirated engine. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard.
A CVT option is unlikely to be offered on the CNG variant.
Launch and Pricing
The Renault Triber turbo petrol is expected to launch in the September-October period, coinciding with the festive season. It may be limited to the higher-end Techno and Emotion trims. Expect a premium of around Rs. 90,000 for the manual transmission and about Rs. 1.9 lakh for the CVT.
