A village panchayat in Ratlam has announced a social boycott of families whose children marry through elopement or love marriage.
The decision comes after 8 boys and girls eloped and married in the last six months, reportedly angering the panchayat.
As part of the boycott order:
No priest will conduct rituals in such families
Milk vendors and barbers will not visit their homes
Villagers have been told not to give them work
The announcement was publicly conveyed to all villagers, along with a warning that families of couples who elope will face complete social exclusion.
