Ratlam: Multi-crore Jewellery Heist Solved in 48 Hours, Six Arrested

Rapid Resolution of Major Jewellery Theft

The Madhya Pradesh Police have once again demonstrated their proficiency with advanced technology and sharp intellect by solving a multi-crore rupee jewellery theft in Ratlam within a mere 48 hours. This successful resolution led to the arrest of six individuals, from whom gold and silver ornaments valued at approximately ₹5 crore 50 lakh were recovered.

This operation underscores the police's effective efforts towards the swift resolution of serious crimes in the state. The incident occurred on the night of August 13, 2026, near Hanuman Chowki, Umarthana Phanta, within the jurisdiction of Bilpank police station.

Details of the Robbery

The complainant, Arpit, son of Lalit Kumar Choradiya, a resident of Jain Colony, Ratlam, and a gold and silver trader in Ganesh Market, Chandni Chowk, was returning to Ratlam by a night bus after concluding business dealings in Badnagar. During the journey, two individuals who boarded the bus from Badnagar approached the complainant and attempted to snatch his bag. When the complainant resisted and raised an alarm, they, along with other accomplices, assaulted him, snatched the bag, and fled.

The bag contained a significant quantity of gold and silver ornaments, cash, and other important documents. A case was registered at Bilpank police station based on the complainant's report, and an investigation was initiated.

Formation of Special Teams for Swift Action

Considering the sensitivity of the incident and the substantial value of the crore-worth property involved, several special teams were formed under the clear directives of Shri Rakesh Gupta, Additional Director General of Police, Ujjain Zone, and under the leadership of Shri Nimish Agarwal, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ratlam Range, and Shri Amit Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Ratlam. These teams were tasked with the earliest possible resolution of the incident and the arrest of the perpetrators.

Synergy of Modern Technology and Ground Evidence

The police teams meticulously analyzed footage from hundreds of CCTV cameras installed along various routes from the crime scene to Badnagar. Simultaneously, crucial information was gathered through detailed interviews with eyewitnesses, including the complainant, bus driver, conductor, and cleaner. Essential physical evidence was also collected from the crime scene and surrounding areas.

The cyber cell also played a role in this case, meticulously analyzing available technical and digital evidence to obtain information on the activities and mutual contacts of the suspected individuals. By correlating CCTV footage, technical evidence, and other information gathered on the ground, the police team ultimately succeeded in reaching the suspected accused.

Apprehension and Recovery

During the investigation, on August 15, 2026, police received a credible tip that the accused involved in the incident were hiding in the Himmatgarh hill area and that the looted property was also with them. Upon confirmation of this information, the police teams immediately acted, cordoned off the area, and apprehended six suspicious individuals.

Recovery and Further Investigation

During interrogation, the apprehended accused confessed to their involvement in the robbery of the bag filled with gold and silver ornaments. The police recovered 238 gold ornaments weighing 4.167 kilograms and 183 silver ornaments weighing 4.047 kilograms from the possession of the accused.

In total, 421 pieces of gold and silver ornaments, weighing a combined 8.214 kilograms and estimated to be worth approximately ₹5 crore 50 lakh, have been seized. The police are continuing to raid potential hideouts in pursuit of other absconding accused.

This operation once again demonstrates how modern technology, such as the comprehensive analysis of CCTV footage and the use of cyber evidence, can play a significant role in solving challenging crimes when combined with traditional ground policing. It is due to the police's swift and well-planned action that property worth crores of rupees could be recovered within just 48 hours of the incident.

Currently, detailed interrogation of the arrested accused regarding the incident and investigation into their other criminal activities are ongoing.
