Rana Daggubati Reflects on Health Crisis

Actor Rana Daggubati, 41, recently discussed a serious health scare that prompted him to re-evaluate his life's purpose. He shared his experience on Rhea Chakraborty's YouTube podcast, Chapter 2.

“When I was diagnosed, it came as a shock,” Rana stated, reflecting on the unexpected nature of the diagnosis and the need to address his health urgently. He emphasized the initial disorientation of facing a personal health crisis.

Rhea Chakraborty, 33, acknowledged the difficulties Rana faced, noting, “You were going through your health scare. It was a difficult journey. You were eating saltless food for months. You were in the hospital...”

Facing the Diagnosis and Recovery

Following the diagnosis, the Baahubali star underwent significant lifestyle changes and medical treatments. “So, I had to do a bunch of things, whether it was my food or the process of surgery, post surgery, post care,” he explained.

Rana spent time in the United States, reflecting on his purpose and priorities.

“It was the first time I had been by myself in a really long time... So, you start thinking so much in terms of your purpose.”

Details of the Medical Condition

Previously, on Sam Jam hosted by Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Rana had revealed specific details about his condition. He spoke of lifelong blood pressure issues, calcification around the heart, and kidney failure.

He disclosed a grim prognosis:

“There was a 70 per cent chance of stroke or haemorrhage and a 30 per cent chance of death.”

The Silent Threat of High Blood Pressure

Dr. Parin Sangoi, a consultant interventional cardiologist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central, explained the dangers of unchecked high blood pressure. High blood pressure is often a 'silent threat'.

It can lead to calcification, which stiffens and narrows arteries, reducing blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attack. In the kidneys, it impairs filtration, gradually leading to kidney failure.

The Interconnectedness of Heart and Kidney Health

Dr. Sangoi emphasized the increased risks when heart and kidney disease occur together. “Both organs rely on healthy blood vessels, and when these vessels are compromised, complications like stroke, heart failure, or sudden cardiac events become much more likely,” he stated.

“A 70 per cent risk of stroke or hemorrhage show how unstable this condition can become if it is not closely monitored and treated,” Dr. Sangoi added, highlighting the urgency of managing such conditions.
