The controversy deepened with Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand's comments in Etah. He stated on Thursday that "theft has been happening in the Ram temple since the time of shila pujan," referencing numerous prior allegations.

"When the temple started getting built, plots began to sell. Plots would become worth crores in two minutes. Champat Rai is already sitting there. Champat itself means to run away with it."
