Rahul Gandhi Alleges ‘Vote Theft’ Cover-Up Through Electoral Roll Revision

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the Election Commission (EC) of using the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to “cover up and institutionalise vote theft.”

Speaking to reporters in Pachmarhi, where he was attending the Madhya Pradesh Congress district presidents’ training camp, Gandhi alleged that large-scale manipulation of voter lists had occurred in several states.

“Vote theft is an issue, and the SIR now — it is about covering it up and institutionalising the system,” the Congress MP claimed.

The Election Commission began its Special Intensive Revision of voters’ lists on November 4 across nine States and three Union Territories.

‘Vote theft’ in multiple States

Rahul Gandhi said he recently examined data from Haryana, which he claimed revealed large-scale discrepancies.

“A few days ago, I gave a presentation on Haryana. I clearly saw that 25 lakh votes were stolen — one in every eight votes. After looking at that data, I believe the same thing happened in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh. This is the system of the BJP and the EC,” he alleged.

He added that the Congress has “more evidence” to substantiate these claims, which will be released gradually.

“We have very detailed information. Right now, only a little has been shown,” Gandhi said.

‘Democracy and Constitution under attack’

The Congress leader also accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar of jointly undermining democratic institutions.

“Democracy is being attacked. Ambedkar’s Constitution is being attacked. Modi ji, Amit Shah ji, and Gyanesh ji are doing this directly through a partnership. Because of this, Bharat Mata is being harmed,” Gandhi charged.

Training camp in Madhya Pradesh

Responding to another question, Gandhi said the Congress’s district presidents’ training programme in Madhya Pradesh had received positive feedback from participants and was aimed at strengthening the organisation ahead of upcoming elections.
