Rahul Gandhi Alleges ‘Vote Chori’ in Haryana, Claims 25 Lakh Fake Votes Cast

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday intensified his ‘vote chori’ (vote theft) attack on the BJP and the Election Commission of India (ECI), alleging massive voter fraud during the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections.

At a press conference in Delhi, Gandhi claimed that his team had “100 per cent proof” that nearly 25 lakh fake votes—about 12 per cent of the state’s electorate—were cast to “convert a Congress victory into a BJP win.”

“Haryana has two crore voters, and 25 lakh of them are fake. One in every eight voters in Haryana is fake,” Gandhi alleged, presenting slides of purported discrepancies in voter rolls.

‘Duplicate Entries, Fake Photos’

Among the examples cited, Gandhi highlighted a case where a Brazilian model’s photograph allegedly appeared multiple times in the electoral rolls under different names—Seema, Sweety, and Saraswati—purportedly used to vote 22 times across 10 booths.
The Congress party shared the claims on X (formerly Twitter), asking:

“Who is this lady? How old is she? Where is she from?”

‘Planned Operation to Steal the Election’

Gandhi accused the BJP of orchestrating a “systemic manipulation” of the electoral process.

“All exit polls pointed to a Congress victory in Haryana. For the first time, postal ballots didn’t match actual votes. A plan was put in motion to turn a landslide win into a defeat,” he said.

The Congress leader also referenced a post-election video of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini, alleging that his demeanor hinted at an “arrangement” following the vote.

‘BJP Infiltrators’ and Duplicate Registrations

Rahul Gandhi further claimed that thousands of BJP workers were registered in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, citing examples of individuals with multiple voter IDs.

“A BJP leader in Palwal has 66 voters registered at his address. Another man has 500. BJP’s Dalchand and a Mathura sarpanch, Prahlad, are voting in both states,” he alleged.

He also accused the ECI of manipulating voter lists marked as ‘House No. Zero’, typically reserved for homeless voters.

“We found people registered as homeless living comfortably in their homes. The Chief Election Commissioner is lying to the people,” Gandhi charged.

‘Next Target: Bihar?’

Gandhi warned that the alleged “sarkar chori” (government theft) playbook would be repeated in Bihar, which goes to polls on Thursday.

“If the EC removed duplicates, elections would be fair. But they don’t want that. This is proof that the BJP and the EC are working together,” he claimed.

Election Commission Responds

Sources within the Election Commission dismissed Gandhi’s accusations, calling them “baseless.” They clarified that no appeals had been filed against Haryana’s voter rolls and that only 22 election petitions were pending before the Punjab and Haryana High Court out of 90 assembly constituencies.

The Commission also questioned Gandhi’s assertion that the duplicate votes favored the BJP, noting that “it is unclear how he can claim which party such voters supported.”
