Protests Erupt on NH-30 in Patna After Fatal Road Accident; Buses Torched, Police Attacked

Tragic Accident Sparks Outrage and Violence

A road accident in Bihar's capital, Patna, on Sunday led to a severe law and order situation in the Agamkuan police station area. Following the tragic death of a 27-year-old youth, an enraged mob of locals and villagers blocked National Highway-30 (NH-30). The protesters turned violent, setting several vehicles ablaze, including an empty bus, and resorting to stone-pelting at the police.

The incident began near the Badi and Chhoti Pahari intersection in the Agamkuan police station area when a speeding vehicle struck the 27-year-old youth. He died on the spot. News of the accident spread rapidly, drawing a large crowd of villagers and local residents to the scene. They began protesting, demanding immediate justice and strict action against the driver.

NH-30 Blockaded Amidst Escalating Violence

Initially, the protesters attempted to voice their demands peacefully. However, the crowd soon became unruly and completely halted traffic on NH-30. The situation rapidly deteriorated as some individuals within the mob targeted and set fire to several vehicles, including an empty bus parked on the road. These acts of vandalism and arson created widespread panic in the area.

Police Deployed as Stone-Pelting Intensifies

Upon receiving reports of the unrest and violence, senior police and administrative officials from Patna City immediately arrived at the scene. They attempted to pacify the crowd and control the situation. However, a section of the protesters began throwing stones at the police force. In response to this unprovoked attack, police had to summon additional security personnel to manage the situation, and security was heightened across the entire area.

Traffic Disrupted, Administration Appeals for Calm

The arson and protests resulted in long queues of vehicles in both directions on NH-30, causing significant inconvenience to commuters. Traffic remained completely stalled for several hours. Police and administrative teams worked diligently to restore normal traffic flow. The administration has appealed to all citizens to maintain peace and refrain from paying heed to any rumors.

Police are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the entire incident. Efforts are underway to identify individuals involved in the violence, arson, and vandalism, with assurances of strict legal action against those who disrupted law and order. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area due to the prevailing tension. The administration is also conducting a detailed inquiry into the causes of the accident and the incidents of violence during the protest.
