An incident of a prisoner escaping from the lock-up at the Bareilly district court premises has raised serious questions about the security system. The prisoner, Sachin Singh Thakur, a resident of Subhashnagar, was brought for a court appearance on October 21 but managed to evade the police. A preliminary investigation revealed negligence and deliberate concealment of the incident, prompting a stern action from Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya.
SSP Anurag Arya has immediately suspended a total of eight police personnel, including duty officer Sub-Inspector Vijendra Singh. These suspended officers include Head Constables Rajendra Singh, Kulwant Singh, Sudhir Kumar, Somdas, Dharmendra, and Constables Indrajit and Aadesh. A case has also been registered against all of them at the Kotwali police station. The preliminary inquiry found that instead of informing higher authorities, the police personnel concealed the incident for three days, tarnishing the department's image.
Teams Formed to Apprehend Escaped Prisoner
To ensure the swift arrest of the escaped prisoner, Sachin Singh Thakur, the SSP has formed four joint police teams. These teams consist of experienced personnel from the Surveillance, SOG (Special Operations Group), Kotwali, and Subhashnagar police stations. The teams are conducting raids on the prisoner's suspected locations and making every possible effort to apprehend him. Following this incident, the security arrangements at the court premises are being re-evaluated to prevent future occurrences.
Investigation and Accountability Process Accelerated
The district administration and police department are currently focused on recovering the escaped prisoner and conducting a thorough investigation into the matter. The incident has caused a stir within the police department, and the process of holding responsible officers accountable is being expedited. Given the sensitivity of the case, the police are investigating from all angles to ensure the prisoner's prompt arrest and to rectify flaws in the security system.
