President Droupadi Murmu to Address Odisha Assembly Today in Historic First

President Droupadi Murmu will deliver a landmark address in the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Thursday (November 27, 2025), marking the first time in history that a sitting President of India will address the state’s lawmakers on the floor of the House.

The address will take place on the opening day of the Winter Session, for which elaborate arrangements have been made. All MLAs have been requested to remain present.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling called the moment “a huge honour,” noting that the President carries “rich experiences of working as a lawmaker, Minister, Governor and President.”

President Murmu will be accorded a ceremonial reception on entering the Assembly. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Speaker Surama Padhy, and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik are expected to join in welcoming her.

In a special tribute to her political journey, the Assembly has decorated the chamber where Ms. Murmu sat during her tenure as MLA and Minister. She is likely to visit the chamber during her stay.

President Murmu was first elected to the Odisha Assembly in 2000, later serving as a Minister in the Naveen Patnaik-led government. She was re-elected in 2004 before eventually rising to serve as Governor of Jharkhand and now as President of India.
