POCO C81 vs C81X: Budget Smartphone Showdown! Which One Wins?

Top Summary

  • What happened: POCO launched the C81 and C81X smartphones, targeting the budget to midrange market.
  • Why it matters: These new phones offer competitive features at affordable prices, impacting consumer choice.
  • What changes for people: Consumers now have two new options with slightly different software and display features in the budget segment.
  • Who is affected: Budget-conscious smartphone buyers in India are most directly affected by these new releases.

Design and Display

The POCO C81 features a 6.9-inch HD+ IPS LCD with TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, circadian friendliness, and flicker-free viewing. The C81X offers a slightly smaller 6.88-inch HD+ IPS LCD without these certifications.

While both have a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate, the C81's display is designed to be more eye-friendly.

Design-wise, the C81 is slimmer (8.15mm) but heavier (208g), while the C81X is thicker (8.26mm) and lighter (193g).

Performance and Software

Both the POCO C81 and C81X are powered by the UNISOC T7250 Octa-Core (12nm) chipset with a Mali-G57 MP1 GPU. They come with 3GB or 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.2 storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD.

However, the key difference lies in the software. The C81 runs on Android 16 with HyperOS 3, while the C81X ships with Android 15 and HyperOS 2. This gives the C81 a more up-to-date software experience and potentially longer software support.

Camera and Battery

Both devices share the same camera setup: a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera with a secondary sensor and LED flash, along with an 8MP f/2.0 front camera.

They also both sport a large 5200mAh (A7) / 6300mAh (A7 Pro) battery with 15W fast charging, providing ample power for daily use.

Connectivity and Other Features

Both phones support dual SIM (nano + nano + microSD), Dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz/5GHz), Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, and have a USB Type-C port. They also have a 3.5mm jack, FM Radio, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security.

Both are IP52 dust & splash resistant.

POCO aims to provide users with feature-rich devices at competitive prices, and the C81 and C81X continue this tradition.

Which One to Choose?

The POCO C81 emerges as the more future-proof option, thanks to its newer software and eye-friendly display. The C81X offers a slightly lighter build and a potentially lower price point.

Ultimately, the choice depends on individual priorities and budget.
