PM Modi Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹8,260 Crore in Uttarakhand, Calls It ‘Spiritual Capital of the World’

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth ₹8,260 crore in Uttarakhand, marking 25 years of the State’s formation. He lauded the all-round progress made by the hill State across multiple sectors and said Uttarakhand has set an example of balanced growth.

Addressing a public event celebrating the silver jubilee of Uttarakhand’s statehood, the Prime Minister said the State’s budget, which stood at ₹4,000 crore 25 years ago, has now crossed ₹1 lakh crore, reflecting its rapid economic growth.

Highlighting the scale of ongoing work, Mr. Modi noted that infrastructure projects worth ₹2 lakh crore are currently underway in Uttarakhand.

He further remarked that the State, with its abundance of pilgrimage sites such as Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Hemkund Sahib, has the potential to become the “spiritual capital of the world.”

The newly inaugurated and foundation-stone projects span several key sectors — including drinking water, irrigation, technical education, energy, urban development, sports, and skill development.

Key projects include:

  • Dehradun Water Supply Coverage for 23 zones under the AMRUT scheme.

  • Electrical Substation in Pithoragarh district.

  • Solar Power Plants in government buildings.

  • AstroTurf Hockey Ground at Haldwani Stadium in Nainital district.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, along with senior State leaders and officials, attended the ceremony.
