PM Modi Hails Indian Blind Women’s Cricket Team for Winning Inaugural T20 World Cup

New Delhi, November 24, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian blind women’s cricket team for creating history by winning the first-ever Blind Women’s T20 World Cup, calling the achievement a powerful symbol of teamwork, determination, and national pride.

India clinched the title on Sunday (November 23) after defeating Nepal by seven wickets in a commanding performance at the P Sara Oval in Colombo. After opting to bowl first, India restricted Nepal to 114/5, and then chased down the target in just 12 overs, finishing at 117/3.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi wrote:

“Congratulations to Indian Blind Women's Cricket Team for creating history by winning the inaugural Blind Women's T20 World Cup! More commendable is the fact that they stayed unbeaten in the series.

This is indeed a historic sporting achievement, a shining example of hard work, team work and determination. Each player is a champion!”

He added that the team’s triumph would “inspire generations to come.”

India’s Unbeaten Run

Throughout the league stage, India dominated the competition, defeating Sri Lanka, Australia, Nepal, USA, and Pakistan. The team then beat Australia once again in the semi-final, securing their place in the title clash.

A Tournament of Firsts

The tournament was co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with matches also played in Delhi and Bengaluru, marking a new chapter in the promotion of inclusive sports across the subcontinent.

Blind cricket teams consist of 11 players, and the game is played with a white plastic ball filled with ball bearings, allowing athletes to track it through sound as it moves.

India’s historic win not only cements their status as pioneers in the sport but also highlights the growing global recognition of blind cricket.
